2012 Ducati bikes Review

Ducati isn’t just going to exploit Valentino Rossi’s legendary skills for its MotoGP race team, the company has also revealed that the nine time world champion will play a role in the development of its future road bikes.

Indirectly, technical advances will filter down from the prototype Desmosedici project, but Rossi will also have a direct hands-on input by testing new Ducati road bikes himself.

“The 2011 season opens a sort of third phase for our MotoGP project,” said Claudio Domenicali, General Director of Ducati Motor Holding. “The first was with Loris Capirossi, who in just six races took the Desmosedici to its first win. The second brought the world championship crown, thanks to Casey Stoner, in 2007.

“The big news for 2011, which opens a third phase, is the arrival of Valentino Rossi on the team. It’s an important phase for our company, which relies a lot on research and development, and which uses the MotoGP series not only as a venue for winning, but also as a laboratory for advanced research.

“Valentino is universally recognized as a master at taking a bike to its limits, but also at providing feedback that’s extremely useful for development. We think this skill will give us a big push for improving our engineering, and to always give our fans the best bikes possible.

“Many of the models we’ve produced in recent years, starting with the 1198 - our flagship sport bike - but also bikes intended for less extreme application, boast technical characteristics that come directly from our experience in MotoGP, like traction control and aspects of electronic engine management.

“This will happen even more with the new generation of sport bikes that we’re working on now, bikes in which this link will be even more direct, from electronic management strategies to the chassis to the motor.

“Filippos [Preziosi, head of Ducati Corse] work with both of our [MotoGP] riders will be even more evident, and we’re certain that the possibility of also having Valentino test our new models and give us his impressions will make this flow of technology even more effective.”

Cycling of the KTM 990 KTM 990 SMT SMTLa suspension department has a high quality, in support of the tires fitted as standard (Continental Sport Attack) and for a perfect absorption of the surface roughness of stradale.

As befits a motorcycle on the characteristics of sports and still vibrant, the calibration of the ABS was also maintained on the sport, so his involvement is limited only to situations of real danger. In addition, the adoption of phonic wheels in 48 teeth, The new ultra-compact sensors and relying on the greater speed of action of the present modulation valves, it was possible to minimize the pulsation of the brake lever, which is almost imperceptible.

The new ABS also incorporates a rollover strategy, which monitors the lifting of the driving wheel. Do not forget also that the KTM has introduced the possibility of exclude the ABSThrough a button, for when the driver wants to drive in complete freedom and autonomy. 2012 KTM Street Model Lineup Preview

When dipping its toes back in the streetbike market, KTM did so gently with the single-cylinder Duke models. But when the company decided to finally hit the ground running and introduce a slew of street models, it still did so in a conservative fashion. The company’s headliner, the RC8 superbike, lacked power compared to its rivals, and the fit and finish was still a little rough around the edges. That said, KTM designers nailed the chassis design from the start, as it’s one of the best handling motorcycles we’ve ridden. The RC8 R aimed to fix the power issue by bumping displacement from 1148cc in the base model to 1195cc — rivaling its V-Twin competition — but now that power wasn’t an issue, taming it was.
Taking the “Ready To Race” motto to heart, 2012 sees six street bikes in the KTM lineup, headlined by the RC8 R and RC8 R Race Spec models. Here’s the breakdown:

RC8 R

Both the RC8 R and RC8 R Race Spec enter 2012 enjoying a host up carry-over upgrades from 2011. Since the RC8s were late arrivals to the 2011 sportbike party, we’re highlighting the changes and upgrades.

The 1195cc, 75-degree V-Twin remains; enhanced with dual spark plugs for better combustion, and new camshaft timing, the RC8 R now matches the increased power of its club racing kits. A forged crankshaft receives an additional 100 grams of weight for more inertia and when combined with a 25% heavier flywheel the result is a reduction to the abrupt throttle response for which the RC8 was notorious. But that’s not all, the 52mm throttle bodies now have an idle speed control cam to allow smoother airflow in the initial range of movement, like when applying throttle exiting a corner. Of course, this change in airflow required the ECU mapping to be tweaked to compensate.

The gearbox wasn’t ignored either when going over the RC8 R. Of note is a gearbox sensor that allows the ECU to help control engine braking depending on the current gear. This will help reduce rear-end chattering when diving deep on the brakes for a corner. Other improvements to the tranny include a revised drum and linkage to save weight and provide better shifting.

In the suspension department, the front fork received a larger air chamber (110mm vs. 80mm), while the rear shock’s spring rate is reduced from 95 to 85 N/mm. Both changes provide a better compromise for street riders who want a more comfortable ride, but who still take their RC8 to the track occasionally. Rear ride height now receives a larger range of adjustment, with the rear linkage eccentric adjustable up to 12mm.

The rider interface is slightly revised as well, with the gear indicator in both Street and Race mode shown in two places; as a line under the RPM and as a numeric display. Instant and average fuel economy is updated every three seconds, and speaking of fuel, the RC8 R now has an option to switch between two different fuel maps depending on the quality of gas available, with the default 91 octane setting good for a claimed 170 horsepower. The second setting, set for 94 octane, can reach a claimed 175 horses. As far as electronics, the RC8 R doesn’t receive traction control like many of its counterparts, unfortunately, but it still looks to be a worthy competitor in the literbike wars. Finally, its headlight is now surrounded by LED marker lights. Attention was given to not only bump power slightly, but moreso to manage it. Pricing is TBA

RC8 R Race Spec

Upping the ante for the serious trackday or racing enthusiast is the RC8 R Race Spec, which practically throws the proverbial “kitchen sink” of parts from KTM’s performance catalog onto the RC8 R. Specific to the 2012 RC8 R Race Spec are new suspension settings and a new countershaft sprocket with an additional tooth, now 17. To create the Race Spec the base RC8 R is stripped of its street plastics and fitted with track versions instead, with no cutouts for lights or mirrors. Next comes an Akrapovic Evo 4 titanium exhaust system, thinner head gasket, and more aggressive cam timing (a tool to adjust the cam timing is also included). A freer-flowing air filter is installed, while the race ECU is programmed to match the new engine components. This is mated to a racing wiring harness which eliminates all the unnecessary wires (like those that operate the lights), all in the name of weight savings. All told, the Race Spec engine puts out a claimed 180 horsepower and 97.4 ft.-lbs. of torque.

Also included in the Race Spec is a slipper clutch and quickshifter for the GP-style (reverse) shift pattern which comes standard. A WP 4618 race shock is fully adjustable, while the WP fork receives TiAIN coating for the slickest surface possible. Both units are tuned specifically for the Race Spec chassis. Forged Marchesini aluminum wheels shave some weight off the stock bikeand are mounted to Dunlop race slicks.

Other notables include machined adjustable footpegs with carbon heel guards, adjustable race brake and clutch levers, 520 chain and sprockets, high-performance brake pads, quarter-turn racing fuelcap, carbon engine guards and a bike stand from Power Parts. Pricing is also yet to be determined for the RC8 R Race.

990 SM T ABS

Making a return to our shores is a revised version of the 990 SM, only this model gets a T designation for touring, along with the addition of ABS. It’s powered by the venerable 999cc, 75-degree V-Twin we saw in the Super Duke (which, sadly, isn’t coming here) and comes with soft saddlebags as standard equipment. KTM partnered with Bosch to use its two-channel anti-lock brake system as an added safety feature on the SM. Dual Brembo four-piston, radially mounted calipers bite on 305mm discs and are fed fluid through a radially mounted master cylinder with steel braided lines. Pricing and availability are yet undetermined.

990 Adventure ABS/Adventure R

If you’ve ever seen the notorious Paris-Dakar rally, then you’ve definitely seen the workhorse of the KTM lineup, the 990 Adventure. The 2012 model year sees the Adventure get spruced up with two new variants with the ABS and R models. The former is based on the 2011 Adventure Dakar edition, powered by the same 999cc V-Twin that puts out 115 hp. Only now it receives the benefit of ABS. It also gets a factory racing orange powder coated frame and engine guards, revised wrap-around hand guards, a modified centerstand for easier lifting and new colors and graphics.

The Adventure R model benefits from suspension tweaks that provide 9.8 inches of travel for aggressive riding. A lower seat height of 35.2 inches is almost one full inch lower than the 2010 model. Ground clearance is now set at 11.7 inches.

690 Enduro R/500EXC/350EXC-F

Lastly, a trio of on/off-road models make their way for 2012, starting with the 690 Enduro R, which gets a true 690cc engine due to longer stroke. This increases power to a claimed 67 hp and 49 ft.-lbs. Service intervals have been extended to 6200 miles (10,000km), while suspension settings receive new spring rates, resulting in total travel of 250mm. Seat height now drops 20mm to 910mm, while a new seat adds more comfort. A new tank spoiler, front mask and fender combine to give the 690 Enduro R a new look to go along with the new and improved headlight.

Sadly, the new 690 Duke announced at EICMA apparently won’t be coming to America.

The 500EXC and 350 EXC-F are practically completely revised motorcycles. The 500EXC features a new 510.4cc SOHC fuel-injected engine that’s 5.5 pounds lighter than previous the previous powerplant. The 350, meanwhile, sports a 349.7cc DOHC fuel-injected engine. Internally, both engines receive a new balancer shaft, lighter piston and connecting rod and a new single diaphragm spring clutch. A new electric start system has a kickstart backup and is paired with a stronger stator rated at 196 watts. The frame and swingarm are new with a PDS shock in back. Black Giant-brand rims and spokes adorn each bike, and each gets a new airbox, intake boot, silencer and spark arrestor. New bodywork includes a translucent fuel tank and in the rear the taillight and license plate holder is beefed up to be more durable. The 500EXC will retail for $9899, with the 350 coming in $200 cheaper.

Honda Racing Corporation HRC present 2012 Moto3 machine in Catalunya

On Thursday, 2nd, June 2011 at the Catalunya Circuit, Barcelona, Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) will present the NSF250R 4 stroke machine to be used for the future Moto3 class in 2012 that will replace the current 2 stroke, 125cc model used in the GP125 class. This high performance, lightweight and compact racing machine inherits important elements from the RS125R and will allow users to ride with the same sense of comfort whilst learning the basics to move up from entry level to the premier class, serving as a springboard in creating future MotoGP Championship riders.

HRC-Honda-Rancing-Companion

From 1976s MT125R to the RS125R, which finished production with the 2009 model, Honda has produced an accumulative total of 15,000 market racing machines and over this long period of 34 years, Honda has broadened the base of 2 wheel motorsports both in Japan and Worldwide whilst also supporting a number of riders.

During this time, Honda has nurtured all 29 Japan Championship 125 cc class champions, a grand total of 130 Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix (WGP) victories, 11 manufacturer championships and 9 champions with the RS125R.

Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso, currently riding the RC212V in MotoGP, both won World Championships aboard the RS125R and built up a great deal of experience.

Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has also supported customers by selling kit parts to make the engine and other components more powerful while continuing with sales of base vehicles, thereby expanding constructor business opportunities.

Later, environmental challenges for mass production models were pushed to a global level, accompanied by a similar shift to 4 strokes for motorcycle racing machines.

The shift came from the the pinnacle of World Championship Grand Prix racing, moving from the GP500 (2 stroke, 500 cc) to the MotoGP (4 stroke, 990 cc or less at the time; currently 800 cc and next year returning to 1000cc) in 2002 and starting the Moto2 (one make 4 stroke, 600 cc Honda engine) in place of the GP250 (2 stroke, 250 cc) in 2010.

The new NSF250R will be presented at the Catalunya Circuit at 15h30 on Thursday, 2nd June in the Relax Area of the MotoGP Paddock.

This will be followed by a demonstration lap ridden by Alex Criville at approximately 17h00 on Friday 3rd June and a further demonstration lap after the MotoGP warm-up session on Sunday 5th June.

For 2012, CBR1000RR offers better handling through the balance of the free rear shock absorber is patented. With the cc, the engine is capable of 999.8 guaranteed power issued a very large and midrange torque to the leading class in the world. The 2012 Honda CBR1000RR has a high-performance package is unparalleled in the entire balance by the competition. In addition, new bodywork, aggressive and aerodynamic flow helps high-speed handling, with new instrumentation including LCD, lap timer, five more levels, shift indicator and redefine the essence of pure liter classes of sportbikes.

Theres big news about 2012 Honda CBR1000RR. CBR1000RR is important Superbike, which offers the perfect combination of integrated power, handling, and the overall balance for street and track. This years Honda has chosen this versatile machine and given some major upgrades. The new suspension, new bodywork, new instrumentation, new wheels and it was just the beginning. All that is in addition to the powerful liquid 999cc cooled inline four-cylinder engines and all the twin spar aluminum chassis.

2012-Honda-CBR1000RR-Tachometer

The automotive press and fans alike lavished praise sportbike on the first iteration is what grew to become an ongoing series, and the award continues to flow as a model in a row with the basic concept, embodied in the 2012 CBR1000RR. In celebration of 20th anniversary-RR and CBR in accordance with the original concept, 2012 CBR1000RR continue to provide the example of the sepedamotor class sportbike, which always find unparalleled innovation in the overall balance.

Change for the CBR1000RR for 2012 focus on sharpening what is arguably the most important component on a motorcycle that is designed for the sport. Indeed, big time horsepower always holds its own attractions and pouring the CBR1000RR out huge amounts of horsepower and torque right midrange where fans wanted it to be good literbike after all changes are valid, what good is having a big change but not a maximum. Honda responded to this, then, the ultra-responsive handling middle-class style that really allows optimal and increasingly sportbike becomes shine.

Start with the tried and proven four-part fine Die Cast Aluminum twin spar frame, Honda development team focused their efforts on incorporating innovative chassis components, particularly the concept of the new rear shock, Big Piston fork, plus new 12 spoke cast aluminum wheels, which provide more rigidity. In doing so, they were able to expand and improve the handling finesse CBR1000RR braking characteristics as well as an attraction. In addition, the new bodywork is designed with the concept of a layered, aerodynamic flow helps to create pockets of still-large air around the rider while also helping to draw air through the cooling system. Integrated Chin spoiler on the nose also reduces aerodynamic lift at speed, thus improving the handling, and overall package lends a more aggressive appearance.

New EFI makes smooth machine settings are more manageable, with smooth throttle response in particular at small throttle openings. New LCD instrumentation to communicate everything from the position of the teeth to the cooling temperature and speed. Cockpit screen now combines linear digital tachometer bar-type which offers four modes were selected for the reading style. Other instruments include the position of the indicator, an indicator of the five levels of shifting tailored for sequence of intervals, hour-four-lap timer mode, the speedometer, coolant temperature, fuel consumption, fuel efficiency meter of travel, low fuel warning light and odometer numerical tachometer. At the bottom of the screen is a high-beam lights are lights for neutral, turn signals and functions. All in all, these changes make the smooth engine and interface rider rider more friendly.
